Nuclear energy doesn't use any type of fossil fuel although it depends on a nonrenewable resource. Most nuclear energy depends on a mineral called uranium witch is used in nuclear reactors to produce electricity and to power some ships and submarines. In the nuclear reactor the uranium atoms split, producing energy that heats water and turns it into steam. Then the steam is used to produce electricity. And about 8% of the energy produced in the United States is nuclear.
